Principles of Intercessory Prayer

1. God has chosen to work on earth through human agency. Therefore, God chooses to await the prayers of his people to bring about change in our world.

2. Prayer is the primary means by which God releases his power to bring in the Kingdom. Therefore, Intercessory Prayer must be primary in order and in priority for God's Kingdom to advance in power.

3. The nature of reality is cosmic warfare in the spiritual world. Therefore, our prayers engage and impact the spiritual realities in the unseen world.

4. Through our union with Christ, we have begun our co-regency with Him. Therefore, Intercessory Prayer is God's first training ground for reigning with Christ in the New Heavens and New Earth.

5. In communion with Christ, he confides his purposes to us through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Intercessory Prayer brings to birth the will of God on earth.

6. The presence and power of God is most active where there is faith. Therefore, those praying with expectancy and faith will see the greatest works of God. ·

We have a real and powerful adversary who is seeking to make us useless for Kingdom work. Therefore, we must identify and resist his power in our world every day.
This is an excerpt from Ken Matlack’s work on intercessory prayer.
